The book I am reviewing is The Recruit by Robert Muchamore. The story is based on a boy called James who is recruited by a CHERUB, an intelligence organisation that uses children as spies. Only children between 10 and 17 who have no legal guardians can be recruited. It is top secret and James is drugged at a meeting with a counsellor two weeks after the death of his mother and only wakes up when he has arrived at CHERUB. He passes rigorous mental and physical challenges before being accepted and must then pass a year of training at the hands of cruel trainer Mr.Large. He is then sent on a mission to Fort Harmony, a camp in Wales where he infiltrates the plans of the hippies living there and discovers they are planning an anthrax attack on a nearby hotel which is hosting a conference for the worlds leading oil companies. James and his fellow agents foil the plan but not without a scare as James fears he has contracted a deadly disease after breathing the anthrax. However he is treated quickly enough that he makes a full recovery and returns to the CHERUB Campus after a successful mission.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in crime or adventure novels. It's a great read and I really enjoyed it.
