For some it's video games, others it's soccer. Although, to me, none of them can match the enjoyment I get from running. Perhaps it's the, although clichéd but most definitely true, "escape from life", that it brings. Conflict, arguements, moods; all are misplaced in the euphoria of running. The phrase, " runner's high", is often used to describe the rush of endorphins felt after a session. Indeed, in many ways it could be akin to the use of narcotics. Forgetting all the benefits, one might consider running even a danger. It inspires a loyalty regarded as addiction in its advocates, and the blissful ignorance that it provides is only a temporary evasion of life's troubles. When broken down, what exactly are you doing when you run? You are enforcing a prohibition of oxygen on your muscles, soaking them in pain-inducing lactic acid, surely this is unnatural. And yet humans are built to run, and have been running for thousands of years. Why?.... Because a running man is one who is free from constraints, who they are does not matter. They are out in the natural world as their natural selves, doing not what they have learned to do or are paid to do or have to do, but what they were designed to do, what was written in their genes before birth. Of course, it's pretty fun as well.
