CBS Roscommon vs St Nathy’s Ballaghaderreen
It was another great day for the CBS as they took on St Nathy’s in the Connacht Final at the Centre of Excellence in Ballyhaunis.
CBS got off to a great start with Liam Ormsby and Darragh Walsh getting points on the scoreboard and Jack McGahon getting the opening goal after 7 minutes. After 15 minutes the skilful midfielder Conor McNamara added a further goal and point to leave the CBS leading 2-6 to 1 point. The CBS were cleaning up all the breaking balls with Ciaran Lawless at sweeper. The CBS backs were keeping the Nathy’s forwards quiet with Timothy Lambe, John Martin and Kyle Walsh being the pick of the bunch.
At half time the score was CBS 2-7 Nathy’s 0-2.
The second half began and CBS took control with the superb Darragh Walsh adding another point from a well taken free. For the next 10 minutes Nathy’s took over and gave CBS a scare adding 1-3 and but for a goal line save from fullback John Martin and one from goalkeeper Gustavo Rodrigues who’s kickouts were spot on all day. But CBS didn’t panic and two excellent counter attacking goals from Darragh Walsh and Liam Ormsby but the CBS out of sight. Peter Gillooly and Darragh added another point to his impressive tally of 1-6. It was a brilliant win for the CBS as they won another Connacht title. Captain and man of the match Darragh Walsh lifted the Cup. Honourable mentions were Ciaran Lawless, Timothy Lambe and John Martin but on the day it had to go to Darragh Walsh who was unstoppable. Final score CBS 4-11 Nathy’s 1-5.
