CBS Roscommon vs. Sligo Grammar
CBS Roscommon travelled to Sligo Grammar on Tuesday 20th October for their third league game. After a win against the Jess and a hard fought loss to Garbally, CBS were looking for the best result. The game was played in wet and rainy spells with a cross field breeze.
The opening stages of this game belonged to Sligo who carried the ball into the CBS half from the off, but after some great defending and tackling by the CBS forwards, they overturned the ball. This gave them some great momentum going forward, and after great tackling from John Martin, John McDonald and Tom Farrell, Sligo cracked under the pressure which led to a 70 meter sprint from John Martin to offload to Gustavo Rodriguez who touched down for their first try 23 minutes in. The cross field breeze made Tim Lambe’s conversion swing left and wide. Sligo were hungry however and were in the CBS 22 yet again and won themselves a hard fought 3 points from a penalty, and just before the half time interval, they ran in their first try which their full back converted, much to the delight of the on looking Sligo crowd.
Half Time Score: Sligo Grammar 10-5 CBS Roscommon
The second half began and straight from the whistle, Sligo showed they wanted a win. They showed this by the best way possible, with a try 12 minutes into the second half, which they converted. However, the CBS weren’t lying down just yet. After some more great tackling by Kyle Walsh, Dylan Horan and again, John Martin, the CBS overturned the ball. Some carrying from John McDonald, Conor Rohan and Eoin Leonard, Jack Tucker ran in for the CBS’s second try of the game. But this was to be Sligo’s day, with them picking up the win with another 6 points to leave it at 23-12 at the final whistle.
Best on the day for CBS Roscommon were John McDonald, John Martin, Tim Lambe, Kyle Walsh and substitute Jack Tucker.
