Whether you like it or not, the harsh winter brings with it terrible weather, that can damage your house if you're not careful enough. However, with these tips, you can help slim your chances of having a truly cold and miserable Christmas. 1.Before the ice starts coming, make sure to stock up on rock salts to melt ice on walkways, sand to improve traction, and snow shovels and other snow removing equipment. You never know, you just might get a white Christmas! 2.During cold, winter weather, make sure to: Walk carefully on icy walkways Keep dry. Change wet clothes frequently to prevent loss of body heat. Wet clothing loses all of its insulating value and transmits heat rapidly. Keep pipes well insulated to prevent freezing. If they do, remove all insulation and wrap pipes in rags. Open all faucets and pour hot water over the pipes, mostly over where they were exposed to the cold the most. 3.Maintain heating equipment and chimneys by having them checked every year. 4.Insulate pipes with insulation or newspapers. Allow faucets to trickle when not in use. Running water, even a trickle, helps prevent water freezing. Hopefully, these tips will help you keep you and your family safe from the freezing weather. They'll help you out in difficult situations and hopefully you will escape this winter without freezing pipes and unwanted accidents. CONOR DOORLY |
